چکیده
Charles McFall, Adiwinata Gani, Prashant Mhaskar, Panagiotis D. Christofides, and James F. Davis Chemical plants are large-scale systems that involve a complex, distributed arrangement of a number of processing units (reactors, distillation columns, absorbers, pumps, heat exchangers, etc.) connected in series or in parallel, with recycle of material and energy integration among various parts of the plant. The interconnections among the different units imply that faults will have consequences for the stability and performance of, not only the particular units where the faults may have originated, but other units as well. The interconnection of the units, however, complicates the problem of locating and isolating the fault especially when faults in one unit may cause faults in other units. In some severe cases, if not diagnosed and treated quickly and adequately, the effects of a fault originating in one unit may manifest itself, propagate , and develop into a total failure that forces shutdown of all the units.

Set-based Fault-Tolerant Control of Convex Polytopic LPV Systems using a Bank of Virtual Actuators
We propose a robust actuator fault tolerant control strategy for systems with linear parameter varying (LPV) uncertainty model description. The scheme employs a set-based robust fault detection and identification (FDI) approach and a bank of virtual actuators (VA). An interesting feature is that the virtual actuators are used both for FDI and controller reconfiguration (CR) tasks. The robust FD...
متن کاملFault-Tolerant Control of a Nonlinear Process with Input Constraints
A Fault-Tolerant Control (FTC) methodology has been presented for nonlinear processes being imposed by control input constraints. The proposed methodology uses a combination of Feedback Linearization and Model Predictive Control (FLMPC) schemes. The resulting constraints in the transformed process will be dependent on the actual evolving states, making their incorporation in the de...
متن کاملApplication of Robust Observer-based Fdi Systems to Fault Tolerant Control
In this paper, an active fault tolerant control (FTC) strategy is presented for linear dynamic systems. The robust observer-based fault detection and isolation (FDI) systems are applied to guide the reconfiguration of controller parameters to achieve the optimal control performance during different operating conditions of the system: fault-free, fault detected and fault isolated. The selection ...
متن کاملFault Detection and Isolation and Fault Tolerant Control of Wind Turbines Using Set-Valued Observers
Research on wind turbine Operations & Maintenance (O&M) procedures is critical to the expansion of Wind Energy Conversion systems (WEC). In order to reduce O&M costs and increase the lifespan of the turbine, we study the application of Set-Valued Observers (SVO) to the problem of Fault Detection and Isolation (FDI) and Fault Tolerant Control (FTC) of wind turbines, by taking advantage of the re...
متن کاملRobust FDI for FTC Coordination in a Distributed Network System
This paper focuses on the development of a suitable Fault Detection and Isolation (FDI) strategy for application to a system of inter-connected and distributed systems, as a basis for a fault-tolerant Network Control System (NCS) problem. The work follows a recent study showing that a hierarchical decentralized control system architecture may be suitable for fault-tolerant control (FTC) of a ne...
